The short answer
Accommodation for NHS staff working in Liverpool.
We let whole apartments in Liverpool to NHS staff, locums, agency clinicians, visiting consultants and students on placement. You get the entire property rather than a room in a shared house: your own kitchen, your own bathroom, a washing machine and somewhere you can actually sleep in the middle of the afternoon. Stays run from a fortnight to several months, the rate drops the longer you are here, and there is no tenancy agreement, no deposit and no referencing. If a trust or an agency is paying, we invoice them directly. Liverpool is the largest of the cities we run properties in, and the centre is compact enough that a central base reaches the commercial district, the waterfront and the Knowledge Quarter on foot.
Called a few different things
This gets searched for in a lot of ways and they all mean the same thing. NHS staff accommodation Liverpool, NHS accommodation for staff, hospital staff accommodation, hospital accommodation for staff, Liverpool hospital accommodation, key worker accommodation Liverpool, nurses accommodation, accommodation for nurses, nurse housing, doctors housing, medical professional housing, short term housing for medical professionals, hospital staff housing, NHS staff housing, housing for healthcare workers, temporary hospital accommodation, NHS rooms to rent.
What actually goes wrong
Hospital accommodation is scarce, and a room in a shared house is not a rest.
Trust accommodation runs out, and what is left on the open market is usually a room with a shared kitchen, taken on a tenancy you cannot end when the placement does. Neither works when you are doing nights. A whole flat with its own front door, for exactly the length of the rotation, is the thing that is actually missing. It suits you if:
Where you would be
Getting to work in Liverpool.
The Royal and the Knowledge Quarter
The Royal Liverpool University Hospital sits on Prescot Street at the top of the hill, with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre's city site and both universities gathered around it. From Lime Street that is a walk of ten or fifteen minutes and almost all of it is uphill. Anywhere central puts you inside that, which is why the Knowledge Quarter suits people without a car.
Liverpool Women's and the Georgian Quarter
Liverpool Women's Hospital is on Crown Street, behind the university and a little further out than the Royal. It is still walkable from the centre if you do not mind the climb, and the Georgian streets around Hope Street are the closest thing the city has to a hospital neighbourhood. Parking there is residents' permits and pay and display, so the walk is often the quicker option anyway.
Aintree, the Walton Centre and Alder Hey
None of these are walks. Aintree University Hospital and the Walton Centre share a site at Fazakerley in the north of the city, and Alder Hey is out east at West Derby. All three are a drive or a bus from a central flat, and the difference between off peak and eight in the morning is considerable. Fazakerley has its own station on the Kirkby line, which helps if you would rather not drive after a shift.
Sleeping in the day here
Nights are the part that catches people out. Much of central Liverpool is genuinely loud at the weekend: Concert Square, Seel Street and the Ropewalks run late, and the noise carries up the hill. A flat that is calm on a Tuesday afternoon can be a different place at two on a Saturday morning. Which street a property sits on matters more than how close it is to the hospital.
Broadgreen, Whiston and the Wirral
Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and Broadgreen sit out at Thomas Drive in the east, Whiston Hospital is beyond the city boundary in Knowsley, and the original Clatterbridge site is over on the Wirral. Those are all car journeys, and the Wirral one adds a tunnel toll at each end of the day. If your rota moves between sites, the useful question is which of them you attend most often.
Days off between blocks of shifts
A locum block usually leaves a day or two in the middle when you are awake and nobody needs you. Liverpool handles that well. The museums along William Brown Street cost nothing to walk into, the waterfront is a flat half hour from end to end, and the ferry gives you an hour on the river. None of it needs planning, which is the point after four nights.
The mistake is choosing by distance
People pick the nearest thing to the hospital and then find themselves in a part of the city with one bus route and nothing open. Fazakerley and West Derby are residential rather than convenient. A central base with a twenty minute journey usually beats a five minute walk with nowhere to buy food at nine at night, especially when the rota changes halfway through.
Cooking and laundry on a rota
When your hours are inverted, ordinary things get harder. Supermarkets in the centre shut earlier than people assume, so a shift ending at ten means a takeaway or nothing unless you have shopped ahead. The late options in town are hot food rather than groceries, which is fine once and tiring by the third week. Laundry is the other one, and a rota through the weekend means washing at odd hours.
Booking direct
The same property, without the platform's cut.
Our properties are on Airbnb and Booking.com as well, and you are welcome to book there. Booking direct also avoids the guest service fee the big platforms add on top, which on a longer Liverpool stay is not a small number. Booking with us direct also means you are talking to the people who actually run the property rather than a message thread inside an app, which matters when you need an early check-in or an extra week.
If the placement runs more than a few weeks, message reservations rather than booking night by night. We will quote a weekly or monthly rate, hold the property for the whole rotation, and invoice the trust or the agency if that is who is paying.

Liverpool questions
What people ask about staying in Liverpool.
Which hospitals are actually reachable from here?
The Royal Liverpool sits on the edge of the Knowledge Quarter with the Women's, the Dental Hospital and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine within a few streets. Aintree and Alder Hey are a different journey, north and east, and worth planning around rather than assuming.
Can I park in Liverpool?
Parking in the centre is paid and mostly multi-storey, and the residential streets around the Georgian Quarter are permit zones. If you are driving daily, ask about the specific property before you book rather than assuming, because it varies street by street here more than it does in a purpose built block.
Which part of Liverpool should I be in?
Most of what you would need day to day sits in the city centre, the Baltic Triangle, the Georgian Quarter and the waterfront. Tell us where you need to be each morning rather than which postcode you fancy, and we will be honest about what is close to it and what only looks close on a map.
How easy is it to get around Liverpool without a car?
Lime Street puts Manchester at thirty five minutes and London at just over two hours, and the airport is twenty minutes by car.
What is there to do in Liverpool on a day off?
The waterfront, the two cathedrals, the Baltic Triangle and the Georgian Quarter are all walkable from a central base, and the Wirral, Crosby beach and Formby are half an hour out. Liverpool is an easy city to have a day off in, which matters more on a long stay than people expect.
Questions we get asked
What NHS staff ask us before booking.
Can the trust or my agency be invoiced directly?
Yes, and it is common. We invoice the trust or the agency with the dates, the address and any purchase order reference, and VAT is shown properly. Give us the billing details when you book rather than trying to reclaim it later.
Is there a tenancy, a deposit or referencing?
No. This is a booking, not a tenancy, so there is no referencing, no guarantor and no protected deposit scheme. Some properties hold a small damage deposit released after checkout, and we say so before you book rather than after.
I am on nights. Can I actually sleep during the day?
That is the question worth asking and most listings dodge it. Ask us about the specific flat: which way the bedroom faces, whether it is on a main road, what the blackout is like. We would rather have that conversation before you book than have you lying awake at two in the afternoon.
How long can I stay?
From a couple of weeks to several months, and the rate improves the longer it runs. Tell us the full length of the rotation at the start and we will price it that way rather than you extending a week at a time.
